Nutrition Issues

“Approximately 17 %( or 12.5 million) of children and adolescents aged 2-19 years are obese.” (CDC). Therefore, proper health and nutrition is critical to the growth and development of young children. Many of our Americans are suffering from these nutrition issues. Media and its promotion of junk food is one way that affects obese children. Throughout this paper I will discuss the long and short term impacts of obesity on children’s growth and development, describe a specific child who is affected by obesity, and three ways to combat obesity Nutritional Challenges For Emerging Populations Essay
Physical activities is greatly encouraged and implemented in the daily lesson. During lessons we discuss the importance of eating healthy foods. I make sure that the lessons are interested and keep the children engaged; especially the obese child. In addition, this makes the children eager to eat healthy foods that are discussed. Also, the family service worker also plays a role in helping the child. The service worker keeps track of the child’s height and weight. The child’s parents are encouraged to attend a nutrition class sponsored by the Head Start program. In this class the parents will become educated on ways to help the child and combat obesity. Nutrition books are sent home monthly to further educate and assist the parents. These books include healthy recipes, physical activity games, and other different ways to educate parents on obesity issues. There are few ways to combat obesity that involves collaboration among schools, families, and communities. One way is reducing sedentary time.
